The best time to visit the Everglades for an airboat tour

Best Time to Visit the Everglades for an Airboat Tour
Short answer: the best time is the dry season, roughly December to April. Cooler, less humid weather, far fewer mosquitoes, and wildlife concentrates around the shrinking water — so you see more gators and birds. The wet season (May–October) is hot, humid, buggy and prone to afternoon storms, with wildlife more spread out.

Dry season (Dec–Apr) — best

This is peak season for a reason. As the water level drops, alligators and wading birds gather around the remaining ponds, making them easy to spot from the airboat. Temperatures are pleasant and the mosquitoes are manageable. It’s also the busiest time, so book ahead.

Wet season (May–Oct) — hot and buggy

Summer in the Everglades is hot and very humid, with daily afternoon thunderstorms and serious mosquitoes. Wildlife disperses across the flooded marsh, so sightings can be hit or miss. Tours still run — just go early, drench yourself in repellent, and expect a sweatier ride.

Best time of day

Morning tours are cooler, calmer and better for wildlife, before the midday heat and the summer storms build. Sunset airboat rides are atmospheric but bring out the mosquitoes.

Pack for the season with what to wear.
